One of the quintessential foods of the south our smoked Virginia hams are salt-cured by hand and smoked with real hickory and apple wood before being aged in a traditional smokehouse. Prized for their sweetness, Virginia hams are one of the best known and most popular of any of the signature American hams (of which there are many). Virginia hams are sourced exclusively from Razorback hogs raised on a strict diet of peaches and peanuts. This unique menu lends its meat a singularly delicious flavor. After the hams are smoked, they must be aged; this step allows the flavors in the ham to both mellow and mature. Becoming the rich and complex finished product we know and love as classic Virginia smoked ham.

Q: Do these hams have to be cooked? If so , for how long at what temperature?
A:

The ham is cured, but not cooked. These are the cooking instructions:

Preheat an oven to 325°F. Scrub ham under cold water with a stiff-bristled brush. Place ham in a roasting pan with the fat side up. Add 4 cups of water, and cover tightly with aluminum foil. Bake Ham in 325°F oven for 4-5 hours or until internal temperature reaches 158°F. Remove the ham from the oven, remove foil, and let ham rest for 15 minutes. Place ham on cutting board and trim all excess skin, leaving 1/4 inch of fat. Carve or glaze
