This divine soft sheep’s milk cheese comes with pink peppercorns scattered throughout, adding the pepper’s characteristic smell and giving the cheese a sweet, fruity and slightly sour flavor. Not only is it delicious, but this superb Spanish cheese is also naturally lactose-free – allowing cheese-lovers to indulge without worrying about any intolerances.
La Antigua uses pasteurized sheep’s milk to make this cheese since it is aged for such a short time, usually only 7-35 days. The flavorful pink peppercorns come from South America and are added to the cheese during the maturing process.
This mild, young cheese is delicious with crackers or crusty baguette, especially when you wash it down with a glass of fine wine, like a crisp Pinot Grigio. The light bite of the pink peppercorns gives it enough presence on a cheese board, or cut it into slices and use it to spice up a sandwich.
Our rich sheep milk cheese with pink peppercorn stands out compared to other sheep’s milk cheeses thanks to the cheese makers at La Antigua using milk from sheep that forage the local, Spanish countryside where they munch on wild herbs and grass near the small town of Fuentesaúco. The company was founded in 1994 by two men who wanted to unite their passion for sheep’s milk.
