With nothing more than a little jar of zesty capers, you can transform your recipes from blah to brilliant! The zingy saltiness of capers is as versatile as it is delicious. We love to incorporate them into pasta and salads and garnish everything from meats to seafood with these zesty flavor bombs.
What are Capers?
Small pea-sized orbs, capers are the unopened flower buds of a Mediterranean shrub. Picked, sun-dried and pickled in a simple brine of salt, water, and vinegar, they come in a range of sizes; from the tiny non-pareilles to surfines, capucines, fines, and capotes. The smaller buds are more delicate in flavor, gradually building in intensity the larger they become, making non-pareilles the most sought after.
Capers are very popular in Mediterranean dishes but shouldn’t be limited to them. As versatile as they are delicious, capers are a safe bet in most recipes. Fish or chicken, beef or game, we love the addition of capers with almost anything. Sprinkled on pizza or pasta, or even your morning bagel, most foods can benefit from the delightful flavors of these tasty Spanish capers!
