Dates are a sort of exotic and magical ingredient, an ancient food that’s been traded and consumed for millennia, but sort of went out of style, only to come back as cuisine became more global and we looked for ways to sweeten dishes without adding processed sugar.
Medjools are grown in Jordan, near the Dead Sea, on the lowest point of earth, in the best growing conditions for this sweet fruit. They can be used for anything from appetizers (stuffed with chevre they’re a delight), to desserts and as a substitute for sugar in baking. Chop them up and add them to your morning yogurt for a sweet twist, or use it to top chocolate cakes, ice creams and other desserts. Use Medjools in savory recipes like Moroccan chicken, in couscous, with lamb dishes, and pretty much any grain recipe. For baking, you can include it in anything from cakes to banana bread, muffins to loaf cakes. Naturally sweet, with a chewy texture, it’s just as enjoyable as a snack as it is in elaborate dishes.
Our Medjool dates from Jordan are graded Fancy and Jumbo, which means these extra-large meaty dates are pretty, have a lot more moisture than other varieties, and last longer.
