Jijona's Turron

Spanish desserts are famed across the world, and nothing beats the warm aroma of a panadería stopping you in the middle of a street. Well now you can bring one of the finest Spanish desserts straight to your doorstep. Opening the box, you might think you’ve stumbled upon some long-lost treasure, and from a culinary perspective, you’d be right.

For centuries the farmers of Jijona, Spain have cultivated Europe’s finest toasted almonds, and when these are combined with rosemary honey, sugar and egg white, you get turrón: a sweet nougat-like delicacy enjoyed by Spanish kings and princes since ancient times. Enrique Rech is a distinguished manufacturer of turrón, having been in business since 1850.

The Jijona variety is particularly known for its soft and chewy consistency, while Alicante turrón has a firmer, crunchier texture. It comes in large, rectangular blocks, which are easy to cut and share with family or guests. Nowadays, many Spaniards and Latin Americans still eat it as a traditional Christmas dessert, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying it any time of the year.

If you enjoy Jijona turron, be sure to check out our Alicante variety as well.
