Sansho Powder - Stone Milled

Yamatsu Tsujita’s stone milled sansho powder is the perfect way to add a bright spiciness to your recipes. Also known as the “Japanese Pepper” or “prickly Ash,” Sansho delivers a bright citrus spice that doesn’t stop with its flavor profile. Offering a transportational sensation, eating Sansho lightly numbs your lips and makes your mouth water for more.

The Sansho selected and blended by Yamatsu Tsujita is a combination of three varieties of Sansho pepper: Asakura, Yamakura, and Budo. Related to the Sichuan pepper, Sansho has a citrusy flavor and a similar numbing effect. The perfect complement to so many delightful dishes, be sure to serve this Sansho alongside a variety of grilled meats, seafood or hot pot dishes.

Within the old world of Japanese spices, Osaka’s Yamatsu Tsujita is one of the most venerated names. A family operation founded in 1902, Yamatsu Tsujita has passed down from generation to generation. Situated in the Osaka Prefecture, the current owner Mr. Tsujita is considered a master blender. Working sided-by-side with local farmers who grow the Japanese peppers, he carefully inspects each harvest of Sansho peppers to ensure they are always of the highest quality. Try this unique pepper for a taste of traditional Japanese cuisine at its finest.
