Blood Orange tea is a succulent, tart black tea blending Moro blood orange with organic lemon myrtle, marigold blossoms and other exotic flavors. Blood orange is no ordinary citrus fruit. It requires very particular conditions in order to develop its unique crimson-red pigment and raspberry-tinted flavor. To create a true blood orange, harvesters must grow the fruit in a climate with hot, dry summers but cool, biting winters. The trees endure almost freezing night temperatures as well as hot daytime temperatures, and these stressful conditions encourage production of anthocyanins, one of the most potent phyto-chemicals in the plant kingdom. They give the blood orange its distinct color and flavor, and more importantly, imbue it with high levels of antioxidants, 150 times more than Vitamin C alone.
When the Moro orange is combined with the health benefits of organic black tea, it creates a truly first-rate blend with exceptional flavor and presentation. It comes in an airtight canister containing approximately 50 servings, and is delicious hot or cold. Tea Forte suggests steeping it for 3 to 5 minutes at 208 F for the optimum hot serving. For loose leaf iced teas, consider using 2 teaspoons per 8 ounce glass.
