Red Caviar

Red caviar is a term usually used to refer to fish eggs from salmon. These eggs, which are commonly known as roe or caviar, vary in color from a bright orange to a vivid red tone, with a flavor that’s fresh and salty.

There is another type of red caviar found mainly in sushi: tobiko or capelin. This is not a “true” red caviar, as the fish eggs are dyed with food coloring to achieve bright hues for visually appealing contrast. It can be found in many colors – red caviar, of course, but also bright green, yellow, and golden. This red caviar is a great addition to sushi and Oriental cuisine, adding beautiful color and contrast, and a great salty crunch to dishes.

Gourmet Food Store offers several varieties of red caviar for sale

At Gourmet Food Store we offer a great selection of red caviar for sale – it’s one of our most popular caviar varieties! Discover our best-selling red salmon caviar from Alaska and Canada, with large, brilliant orange eggs that pop with fresh flavor and a mild briny taste. With a firm texture and incredible juiciness, red caviar is a great addition to your repertoire.

Red Caviar in Wild

Originally, red caviar from salmon and trout comes from wild fish, caught in the cold waters of the Pacific Ocean, near Alaska and Canada. Wild salmon only spawn once, once they reach adulthood, delivering hundreds of brilliantly colored orange eggs that we eat as red caviar.

Farm Raised Red Caviar

Most farm-raised salmon is consumed for its flesh, rather than its roe or caviar. At Gourmet Food Store we offer a wide range of farm raised caviar for sale, as it’s a more sustainable food product, especially for sturgeon or black caviar. Farm raised caviar is usually more consistent in flavor, milder and less intense than wild-caught, which is usually stronger and fishier.

Price of Red Caviar

Red caviar is usually a very affordable delicacy, as it’s not considered as high end as sturgeon caviar – which are known as black caviar. Salmon grows faster and more abundantly than sturgeon, which makes red caviar more available, bringing caviar prices down. Our red caviar pricing is calculated by the ounce, with presentations ranging from 0.5 oz jars to large pound vats that offer great value and convenience, perfect for caterers and food service.

Great Reasons to Choose Gourmet Food Store

You’ll usually find jars and tins of red caviar around supermarkets and deli stores, but of course you can buy red caviar online at Gourmet Food Store! It’s so much easier, and our red caviar prices are the best on the market. We proudly source our caviar from the best purveyors in the world and we’ve been selling caviar online for over 20 years!
