The preparation of this delicacy originated in the French countryside and incorporates ingredients found in the surrounding French forests, such as porcini mushrooms, to create a flavor that is natural and complex. The porcini are soaked in wine and Cognac, which adds a subtly sweet and winy taste to this unique spread.
