Maytag Blue Cheese has been produced by the Maytag family (of appliance fame) since 1941. This blue-veined cheese is fairly sharp and tangy, similar to Roquefort, and tends to crumble as it ages (it is aged at least 6 months), which makes it perfect for salads. It's made from raw, unpasteurized milk (much like the fine and authentic French cheeses). Pair with a beverage that has character (also a touch of sweetness for contrast) and won't be overpowered by the pungent blue cheese, like port wine.
